Latest Rust Console update: Patch 1.16 (Quality of Life)

Patch 1.16, the Quality of Life update, is a Rust Console update whose highlights include an engine upgrade, unclaiming sleeping bags and beds, improved Treasure Box spawns and fixes for several in-game items and areas. Double Eleven detailed it in Dev Blog #55, dated 23 September 2026.

The biggest changes include:

  • The Unity Engine moves up to version 6.3.

What changed in Patch 1.16

Below is the full list of Patch 1.16 changes, split into themed groups. To start, Patch 1.16 improves how player movement interacts with doors.

Gameplay and quality of life

  • High External Walls and Gate snapping can now be turned off.
  • Players no longer get snagged on objects when they collide with them at a particular height.
  • Respawning on a Sleeping Bag placed at steep angles no longer leaves players stuck.
  • Team invites sent while communications are restricted now display a proper message.
  • Industrial conveyor filters are now more accurate when items are divided between blueprints and actual items.
  • Vending Machine clusters no longer vanish when only some of them are marked hidden.
  • Reactive Targets now collide with the player.
  • Bota Bags now have an inspect animation.

Vehicles

  • Players can no longer abuse seat-switching in Minicopters to be saved from a crash.
  • Minicopter lock-on SFX controls now sit under SFX volume in the options menu.
  • Transport Helicopter fuel gauges now update correctly.
  • Mount options for destroyed Work Carts no longer show on screen.
  • Items no longer float above vehicles when dropped on the roof.
  • Modular Vehicle parts icons have been cleaned up.

Monuments, world and loot

Caves and Underwater Labs

  • The bucket lift in the Caves area no longer lets players fall through its bottom.
  • That fix should also help with corpses clipping out of the Underwater Labs.
  • Some VFX and SFX for the Underwater Labs have been fixed.

Monuments and locations

  • Abandoned Military Base object spawning is now more consistent.
  • The ghost ladder has been removed from the Launch Site subway entrance.
  • The Hobo Barrel has been removed from the truck at the Outpost.
  • Dismounting the Computer Terminal in the Bunker Entrance has been improved.
  • The Code Locked Hackable Crate is now better lit in low light.
  • Fishing in a Swimming Pool will no longer kick the player.

Terrain

  • Patch 1.16 improves collision for multiple decor rocks across the terrain.
  • Players can no longer clip beneath rocks in the Canyon area.

Performance and stability

  • Patch 1.16 fixes some title crashes.
  • Performance has been improved for some areas of the Oil Rig.
  • Space Station buildings now stop rendering at the distance used for vanilla armoured buildings.
  • Airfield underground tunnel LODs now render at an acceptable distance.

Audio, visuals and cosmetics

  • Patch 1.16 makes first person shooting sound effects more consistent.
  • Flashbang and Smoke grenade after-effects are now more consistent.
  • Flashing visuals no longer appear when opening the inventory near monuments.
  • Flame Turrets no longer cast flames when switched off. The fix will also affect Hot Air Balloons and other fire-based objects.
  • Twig Walls now cast shadows.
  • Corn Plants no longer vibrate when viewed at a distance.
  • Viewing a flashlight or other light sources from the side no longer has visual issues.
  • The Pilot Hazmat helmet no longer obscures player vision after death.
  • Coconut Underwear no longer randomly falls off.
  • Some textures for collectibles in the Halloween event have been fixed.

Menus, maps and interface

  • Skin Store navigation stability has been improved.
  • Scrolling the Combat Log from the Pause Menu now functions correctly.
  • Official servers’ names now display properly in the Pause Menu.
  • Blank tooltips no longer persist on screen with appropriate HUD settings.
  • Corpse names now display properly for players who are on the corpse’s platform.
  • Selection UI no longer lingers after players exit the weapon attachments menu.
  • Map markers for Train Entrances have been made smaller to match other markers.
  • Player map icons now update correctly while the Surrender emote is in use.
  • Some Main Menu background videos were added.
  • Some Loading Screen backgrounds were added.

Other fixes and updates

Patch 1.16 also includes multiple minor visual fixes, multiple skinned item fixes and multiple localisation updates.

Known issues in Patch 1.16

Double Eleven lists these known issues:

  • Mounting a vehicle while underwater can occasionally interfere with using weapons.
  • Furnaces are occasionally yielding double the amount of material.
  • Gunfire at medium distance underwater can sometimes miss and trigger projectile_detailed logs.
  • Small Sharks and Salmon are currently not available to catch when fishing in the ocean.
  • In rare cases, changing a user’s auth level may not work correctly if 2 players with the same username are logged in to the server at once.

Double Eleven says it is aware of these issues and is working to resolve them in coming updates.

Coming next: Overground trains test and Halloween

Double Eleven has announced dates for an Overground trains test and for Halloween.

  • Overground trains test: The test on the PTB runs from Oct 6th to Oct 22nd. It covers 100, 150, and 200 player servers. Double Eleven also says ziplines, Train Yard changes and Traveling Vendors, among other things, are headed to Rust Console Edition.
  • Halloween: Double Eleven says the event returns to Rust Console Edition from October 15 through November 4. Its content includes the Trick or Treat event, Frankenstein and Ghost Portals.
